Terms of use

Effective 10 August 2026 · Applies to the PlatePilot iPhone app and this website.

In plain words PlatePilot is a wellness tool that gives you estimates. It isn’t medical advice, the numbers can be wrong, your log lives on your phone so keep a backup, and it’s currently a beta that may change or break.

1. Acceptance

By installing or using PlatePilot (the “app”) or this website, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use them. These terms are between you and Mungapen Consulting, Inc. (“we”, “us”).

2. Apple’s terms also apply

The app is distributed through Apple. Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement and the App Store or TestFlight terms apply to your download and use. Apple is not a party to these terms, has no obligation to provide support for the app, and is not responsible for the app or any claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

3. Wellness only — no medical advice

PlatePilot is provided for informational and general wellness purposes. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, it is not a medical device, and using it creates no clinical or professional relationship. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about a medical condition, medication, or a change to your diet or activity. Never disregard or delay professional advice because of something you saw in the app.

Not for emergencies. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your local emergency number immediately.

This is especially important if you have or have had an eating disorder, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are managing diabetes or another metabolic condition, take GLP-1 or other medication affecting appetite or glucose, or are under medical supervision. See the health disclaimer.

4. Eligibility

The app is intended for adults. You may not use it if you are under the age of majority where you live, or under any minimum age required for you to agree to these terms.

5. Beta software

PlatePilot is currently distributed as a pre-release beta through TestFlight. Beta software is provided as-is: features may change or be removed, estimates and behaviour may be inconsistent, and defects are expected. Beta builds expire under Apple’s TestFlight rules. Don’t rely on the app as your only record of anything you care about.

6. Estimates and accuracy

Calorie, macro and portion figures shown by the app — whether derived from a photo, from the bundled food catalogue, or from what you type in — are estimates. They may be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong, and portion size in particular is hard to infer from a photograph. Photo analysis uses automated systems, including third-party AI models, that can misidentify food. Review results before you save them, and don’t use the app to make medical, dosing or clinical decisions.

Allergens and dietary restrictions. Do not rely on PlatePilot to determine whether a food is safe for an allergy, intolerance, religious or medical dietary restriction. Check the packaging and ask the person who prepared the food.

7. Your content

Your logs, notes and photos are yours. You are responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it. When you use photo analysis, you grant us a limited licence to process that image solely to generate and return your estimate — nothing more. We don’t retain it, and we don’t use it to train models on your behalf. Don’t submit content that is illegal, that infringes someone’s rights, or that contains other people’s personal information you have no right to share.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the app except where the law permits it;
  • attack, overload, probe or abuse the photo-analysis service, or use it outside the app;
  • use the service to process images unrelated to meal analysis;
  • resell, redistribute or provide the app or service to third parties as your own; or
  • use the app in a way that breaks applicable law.

9. Apple Health

If you grant Health permissions, the app reads and writes only the data types you allow, for the purpose of providing features inside the app. Health data is not used for advertising and is not sold or shared with data brokers. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app or Settings; features that depend on it will stop working or be reduced.

10. Intellectual property and feedback

The app, this website, the PlatePilot name and its design are ours (or our licensors’) and are protected by intellectual property law. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple’s rules. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation or compensation to you.

11. Third-party services

The app depends on services we don’t control — Apple’s platform and Health framework, our hosting providers, and the AI vision provider used for photo analysis. Their availability and behaviour are not guaranteed by us, and their own terms may apply to their part of the chain.

12. Privacy

Our handling of data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

13. Your data, backups and loss

PlatePilot stores your log on your device, and there is no cloud sync or server-side copy. If you lose, wipe or replace your iPhone without a backup, that data is gone, and we cannot recover it. Keep an encrypted device backup if the history matters to you. We are not liable for lost or corrupted data.

14. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app, the website and the analysis service are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any estimate will be accurate.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or health outcomes arising from your use of or reliance on the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim (which, during the free beta, is nothing) or ten US dollars. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain exclusions, in which case they apply only to the extent permitted.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your misuse of the app or your breach of these terms or applicable law.

17. Termination

You may stop using PlatePilot at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end access — including beta access — at any time, for example to protect the service from abuse or because a beta programme ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, intellectual property) do survive.

18. Changes

We may update the app and these terms. When we change these terms we will update the effective date above, and for significant changes we will make it visible in the app or on this site. Continuing to use PlatePilot after a change means you accept the updated terms.

19. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules, and the courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes — except that consumers keep the protections and forums that the mandatory law of their own country of residence gives them.

20. Miscellaneous

If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision isn’t a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them as part of a business transfer. These terms, with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the app.
